Incheon Airport to Seoul: AREX Train vs Airport Bus vs Taxi

Illustration of the ways to travel from Incheon Airport to Seoul: AREX train, limousine bus and taxi

Quick answer

  • Cheapest: AREX All-stop train with a T-money card — about ₩4,750 (T1) or ₩5,350 (T2) to Seoul Station, around 1 hour.
  • Fastest to Seoul Station: AREX Express — ₩13,000; 43 min between Seoul Station and T1, 51 min to T2. Buy a separate ticket before boarding.
  • With heavy luggage: airport limousine bus (₩16,000–₩17,000 for adults on Airport Limousine's Seoul routes; other operators vary) or a taxi. Arriving late? Night buses (route numbers start with N) and taxis run when trains and regular buses have finished.
Recent changes to know
  • From October 23, 2026, AREX lists 56 Express services a day in total across both directions. The timetable revision also affects some All-stop departures. Check the current timetable for your travel date, terminal and direction.

First, check your ticket for Terminal 1 (T1) or Terminal 2 (T2). Train fares and times are different from each terminal. If you need to switch terminals, free shuttle buses connect them — route 03 runs from T2 to T1 every 7–20 minutes (4:30 am–11:35 pm) and route 04 from T1 to T2 every 10–20 minutes (4:30 am–11:20 pm); allow time for waiting as well as the ride. The AREX train takes about 6 minutes (₩1,200 for adults with a transit card).

Option 1: AREX All-stop train (cheapest)

The All-stop train is a regular commuter train that runs from the airport into Seoul, stopping at stations like Gimpo Airport, Digital Media City, Hongik Univ. (Hongdae), Gongdeok and Seoul Station.

  • Pay with T-money — just tap in at the gate. (If you don't have a card yet, see how to get a T-money card. Single-journey cards cost ₩100 more, plus a ₩500 deposit you get back at your destination.)
  • Fares from T1 / T2 (adult, transit card):
ToFrom T1From T2
Seoul Station₩4,750₩5,350
Hongik Univ.₩4,650₩5,250
Gongdeok₩4,650₩5,250
Gimpo Airport₩4,350₩4,950

  • Time: about 59 minutes between Seoul Station and T1, and 66 minutes to T2 (some trains take 2–6 minutes longer).
  • Check the current AREX timetable for the last All-stop train from your terminal to your destination. AREX's timetable revision effective October 23, 2026 also affects some All-stop departures.
  • You can transfer to the Seoul subway at stations like Hongik Univ., Gongdeok and Seoul Station.
Local tip: If you're staying around Hongdae or Mapo, the All-stop train gets you there without changing — and it's cheaper than the Express, which only goes to Seoul Station.

Option 2: AREX Express train (fastest to Seoul Station)

The Express connects Seoul Station, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. It runs non-stop between Terminal 1 and Seoul Station; trains from Terminal 2 call at Terminal 1 first.

  • Fare: ₩13,000 for adults, ₩9,500 for children (ages 6–12).
  • Time: 43 minutes between Seoul Station and T1, 51 minutes to T2 (time on the train, not including walking or waiting).
  • You need a separate Express ticket — buy it before boarding at the Express Train Customer Center (B1 of the Transportation Center at T1 and T2) or online on the AREX website in advance.
  • AREX's revised Express timetable is effective from October 23, 2026. Check the official timetable for your travel date, departure terminal and direction before planning around a train.

Our take: The Express makes most sense if your hotel is near Seoul Station or you're catching a KTX train from there. For most other neighborhoods, you'll still need to transfer to the subway, so the time saved over the All-stop train is smaller than it looks.

Option 3: Airport limousine bus

Limousine buses run from the airport to many parts of Seoul. Check the route list for the stop closest to where you're staying.

  • Fare (Airport Limousine's Seoul routes): adults ₩17,000 on direct routes and ₩16,000 on routes via Gimpo Airport; children (elementary-school age) ₩12,000. Other bus operators' fares may differ.
  • Buy a ticket before boarding at the bus ticket counters or ticket machines. Don't count on paying cash or T-money on the bus when leaving the airport.
  • Going back to the airport? Airport Limousine says you can pay with cash or T-money on its buses in that direction (not with a regular credit card or a Climate Card). Other operators may differ.
  • T1 ticket counters: 1st floor arrivals hall, near the exit gates.
  • T2 ticket counters: B1, Transportation Center.
  • Ticket machines run 24 hours.
  • Journey time depends on the route and traffic.

Our take: If there's a limousine stop near your hotel, the bus saves you from carrying big suitcases through subway transfers. Check the walking distance from the stop to your hotel before you choose it.

Option 4: Taxi

Use the official taxi stands outside the arrivals hall (1st floor at both terminals). The airport warns travelers not to use touts who approach you inside the terminal. There are separate stands for Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon taxis — for central Seoul, follow the signs to the Seoul taxi stand. The rates below are for Seoul taxis.

Metered taxis (Seoul rates):

TypeBase fareThen
Regular₩4,800 for the first 1.6 km₩100 per 131 m — in slow traffic, time is charged too (₩100 per 30 seconds)
Deluxe / SUV / van₩7,000 for the first 3 km₩200 per 151 m — in slow traffic, ₩200 per 36 seconds

Source: Seoul Metropolitan Government — rates in effect since Feb 1, 2023; checked Oct 22, 2026.

  • Tolls are added on top of the meter.
  • Late-night surcharge (regular taxis): +20% from 10 pm to 11 pm, +40% from 11 pm to 2 am, +20% from 2 am to 4 am. Deluxe taxis add 20% from 10 pm to 4 am.

International Taxi: International Taxi has fixed zone fares between Incheon Airport and Seoul — ₩70,000–₩95,000 for a sedan and ₩100,000–₩140,000 for an SUV, van or deluxe car, depending on the zone of your destination. Book at least 24 hours ahead; for help on the day, ask at an airport information desk.

Our take: For a group of three or four with luggage, a taxi is worth pricing out — four adult limousine tickets already cost ₩64,000–₩68,000, and a taxi drops you at your address. With four people and big suitcases, check that the car is large enough. For one or two people, the train or bus is much cheaper.

Landing late at night?

Check the last train and regular airport bus for your terminal and destination before you fly — last departures differ by route and terminal. If those services have finished:

  • Night buses run from the airport to Seoul. Their route numbers start with "N" (for example N6000, N6002 and N6701 from T1), and adult fares on these routes are ₩17,000–₩18,000. Buy tickets in advance at the bus ticket counters or machines. Departure times are limited, so check the airport's late-night bus timetable for your terminal before you fly (T1 · T2, Korean).
  • Taxis wait at the official stands — remember the late-night surcharge.

Using a Climate Card pass from the airport?

Seoul's Climate Card short-term pass (unlimited Seoul subway and bus rides) lets you get off at the Incheon Airport T1 and T2 stations, but you can't board the train there with it. This has been the rule since September 13, 2024, and Seoul restated it in its October 1, 2026 coverage update. So you can use it on your way to the airport, but not for your first ride into Seoul — pay for that ride with T-money or a ticket.
